Ventralex ST Hernia Patch
C.R. Bard designed and marketed mesh implants, which have caused painful injuries and many harmful side effects. Having a hernia can be horribly painful and difficult to manage. However, when you couple that with the excruciating abdominal pains associated with a defective hernia patch, it can become almost too much to bear.
About Ventralex ST Hernia Patch
FDA approved in 2002, Ventralex ST Hernia Patch used the FDA 510(k) approval program. This program allowed the company to not have to perform any pre-market clinical studies and research. These studies help ensure the safety of products. However, to gain approval, Bard said Ventralex was similar to its other mesh product, Kugel. Bard recalled Kugel mesh in 2006. Ventralex hasn’t been recalled.
Ventralex ST Hernia Patch combines the original Ventralex patch with the Sepramesh IP Composite. The mesh uses two layers. The usual polypropylene material layer coupled with a second layer made of polyglycolic acid. This patch also has a coating of a hydrogel. Bard said the coating keeps Ventralex ST Hernia Patch from adhering since it can be absorbed by the body.

Last November, a report revealed the mesh folded over and developed adhesion to the bowel. In another report filed in March 2016, a patient had hernia repair surgery, and the surgeon used the Ventralex ST hernia patch. After the surgery, the patient experienced intense pain. The surgeon found that the mesh had torn away from the abdomen and was curled up in a ball. The patient still has complications from the mesh. He suffers from constant nerve pain and has a physical deformity now caused by scar tissue.
We Want to Help Hernia Mesh Victims
Furthermore, it is your right for manufacturers to inform you about the long-term risks associated with the medical devices, and it is the responsibility of manufacturers to provide this information. If you or a loved one has suffered any side effects from Essure, you should demand accountability from Bayer. Why did no one tell you?
Of course, we want to help send a message that this is not acceptable. We are advocates for consumers who have been harmed by dangerous products, and likewise, we have the experience necessary to successfully litigate these cases.
Hernia Mesh Litigation
In 2014, Bard agreed to pay $21 million to resolve 500 lawsuits in its first major settlement. Later in 2014, U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin warned Bard against taking more cases to trial. With more than 3,000 cases remaining against the company and a precedent of multi-million dollar verdicts, Bard could have been forced into bankruptcy if it did not settle the remaining cases.
Bard recently added $337 million to it’s $660 million reserves for lawsuits, according to a Bloomberg report. There are still many cases in the Rhode Island state court.
