The U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bill, which could directly affect YOUR rights, and it is up to you to stop it. The bill known as H.R. 985 will dramatically cut your path to justice through class actions or multidistrict litigations (MDL). This sometimes is the only avenue you can receive justice and compensation from large corporations after being injured by their products.
Instead of seeking to help aid justice and strengthen the court process, this bill undermines any effort by plaintiffs seeking justice in mass disputes. H.R. 985 would help aid corporate defendants by eliminating multidistrict litigations. Instead of preventing unfair settlements as it is proposed to do, it is an effort to minimize liability for defendants even after they violated the law.
If this bill disbands MDLs, thousands of individuals would not be able to seek justice against these corporations who hurt them. Individual claims would be too costly to pursue, plus big companies could easily make them disappear.
These cases aren’t just about compensation. They are also about holding corporations accountable. If this bill passes, there will be no incentive for these large businesses to make safer products. MDLs provide a balance to the system. Please note that this bill also includes retroactive applications. This means it could eliminate any case filed even if it has been pending for years.
We, attorneys, are fighting back against this bill by contacting our elected constituents. We urge you to do the same. Tell your Congress representative your story on how a defective product impacted you, and what would happen if that manufacturer didn’t have to answer to your injury.
Take Action!
Therefore, please find your representative at www.congress.gov and call, write or email them about your concerns.
