This is Michael Brady Lynch, lead trial attorney for The Michael Brady Lynch Firm.
In the years since its FDA approval, Yaz has been under attack for a troubling association with pulmonary embolism, stroke or heart attack. In 2003, the watchdog group Public Citizen was one of the first to demand that Yaz not is on market, plain and simple. I, for one, have been actively litigating on behalf of my clients for over three years for Yaz-related pulmonary embolisms, strokes and heart attacks.
A few days ago, the FDA issued the preliminary findings of an 800,000 patient study which associated Yaz to a high incidence rate of pulmonary embolism and other clotting events, incidence rates far above the those for safer contraceptive alternatives. In the FDA findings, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was reported at alarming rates. Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella, and Beyaz were all singled out in the FDA warning.
The problem with Yaz and Yazmin is the particular combination of medications that make these pills work. Yaz and Yazmin effect the body through a dangerous cocktail of estrogen and drospirenone (a progestin), which can to pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
The FDA has always had its eye on Yaz in terms of safety. Warning letters were issued in 2003, 2008 and 2009 to Yaz manufacturers. With pulmonary embolism, heart attack, stroke and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) associated at such an alarming rate, this begs the question, “Why is Yaz still on the market?”
