Harvey Weinstein is set to appear in Criminal Court in Manhattan on July 30. There he will learn whether a grand jury has indicted him. If so, then he will be arraigned in State Supreme Court in Manhattan. In light of this, many have been wondering what is exactly involved in the Harvey Weinstein case.

Sexual Harassment Allegations

Harvey Weinstein is an American former film producer. He and his brother Bob Weinstein co-founded the entertainment company Miramax, which produced several successful independent films such as Pulp Fiction and The Crying Game.
Salma Hayek, Rose McGowan, and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the hundreds of women who have come forward with allegations ranging from rape to sexual harassment by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. He has been charged with rape and several other counts of sexual abuse involving two unnamed women. Sexual Assault Case

The criminal case in New York involves allegations based upon two women, Lucia Evans, and an unnamed woman. In 2004, Lucia Evans was a 21-year-old college student and aspiring actress. She met Weinstein at a nightclub, and he invited her to his office. He claimed she would meet with a female casting director. Instead, she says, he took her into a room with exercise equipment and takeout boxes on the floor. She claims he unzipped his pants and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
After the incident, Evans says Weinstein acted as if nothing had happened, and began calling her at night asking to meet up. However, she repeatedly turned him down. Nearly 15 years later Evans says she still has nightmares about the meeting.
On May 25, 2018, New York police charged Weinstein with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women”. On that day, police arrested him after he surrendered himself. He posted a million dollars of bail and faces a travel restriction until his trial in July. The statute did not apply because Weinstein’s victims described acts involving “forcible compulsion”. These are crimes for which time limits for prosecuting them were lifted after 2001.

Other Allegations

There could be additional charges against Weinstein. An investigative grand jury is now reviewing evidence of other alleged sexual assault allegations along with possible financial crimes. These crimes relate to using his money to silence people. Also, federal prosecutors are investigating fraud allegations related to an AIDS charity fund-raiser. Plus, he may have violated stalking laws.
