About Sexual Abuse

Student Sexually AssaultedSexual assault on college campuses is a common underreported problem. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) estimates that at least 95% of campus rapes in the U.S. This includes any unwanted sexual activity like touching or rape.  Alcohol and drugs often play a role in sexual assault on campuses. RAINN reports that nearly 70% of victims don’t inform the police. According to the National Institute of Justice, factors that commonly prevent women from reporting attacks include distrust of authorities and fear of blame.

Student Sexually Assaulted Multiple Women

Police received a 911 call stating that she was sexually assaulted at the graduate student’s apartment. The two met on Tinder and had been talking for a couple of weeks. The woman stated in court documents that she told the grad student “no” on several occasions. However, he didn’t comply. In fact, he responded, “I know”. Thankfully, the woman could escape to call authorities. Paramedics noticed bruising on her wrists and hands.
Before police could make an arrest, the student met a second woman less than 24 hours later and sexually assaulted her, too. Also, he took explicit photos of the assault. When police confiscated his phone, there were numerous photos and videos of sexual nature on the device. It was clear to authorities that many women did not know he was videoing them.
