Fresenius medical personnel concluded that patients with excessive levels of bicarbonate in their blood were six times more likely to experience cardiac arrest than those with normal levels. The memo directly linked GranuFlo, which uses a powdered compound that creates bicarbonate, to increased bicarbonate levels and heart attacks.
Fresenius, was ordered to pay $250 million to Granuflo’s victims. Plaintiffs must agree to the terms of the deal by July 2016, and the funding will be provided in August of 2016.
