Were You Injured in the COPA American Final Hard Rock Stadium Event?

2 minute read

Introduction

The COPA America Final took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, featuring Argentina and Colombia. The match was delayed due to fans breaching security barriers, prompting a lockdown to restore order. The situation became dangerous as fans were at risk of being crushed against the gates, leading to gates being reopened to alleviate the threat. The venue was initially supposed to accommodate 65,000 but instead, there was an overflow of 70,000 resulting in an influx of 5,000 over maximum capacity. Despite the logistical challenge of accommodating over 70,000 attendees in a venue initially set for 65,000. Argentina won the final in a dramatic penalty shootout.  [1]

Injuries Sustained at the COPA American Final

Severe injuries were sustained by numerous individuals attempting to enter the Argentina vs. Colombia game due to overcrowding. Victims, comprising adults and children, suffered fractures, contusions, and concussions from being pushed, trampled, and hitting barriers. Around 150 injured fans were treated on-site by emergency medical teams, with 25 requiring hospitalization. The incident highlighted significant deficiencies in crowd control and security measures, despite attendees holding valid tickets, casting a shadow over the event.

Legal Grounds for Personal Injury Claims

Personal Injury claims that occur at a sports event such as this one involve complexities under Florida law and can be based on negligence, breach of contract, and general county and state law principles. [2]
