As of February 5, a congressional report carried out by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy determined that there are highly toxic amounts of “inorganic arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury“ in baby products.[1] According to “Food Safety News,” some of the suggestions by the subcommittee of the House of Representatives were to include a change of label that would indicate the level of arsenic and metals detected in each of the brands,[2] mandatory testing, voluntary recall, and phase-out of the current products that are on the shelves. Additionally, the FDA is suggested to set more stringent standards for the amount of metals permissible in baby products. Some of the brands listed in the research are:
- HappyBaby Organic [3]
- Hain
- Beech-Nut
- Gerber
- Earth’s Best
- Plum Organics
- Sprout Organic Foods
- Parent’s Choice (Walmart Brand)
