Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian denomination with a distinctive set of beliefs and practices. [1]
There have been recent instances of sexual abuse by this organization. According to lawsuits brought against Jehovah’s Witnesses in Spokane, Washington, the organization and Watchtower Bible and Tract Society actively worked for decades to conceal knowledge regarding child sex abuse. The claims assert that there is proof of a vast database maintained by the Jehovah witnesses, which lists alleged and known sexual abusers within the church. Even with this data base, the abusers were allowed to go to different churches and continue to abuse. Furthermore, there was proof that the organization took steps to conceal this and did nothing to safeguard churchgoers and their kids from sexual offenders. Some victims claim that they experienced sexual abuse as children as early as the 1970’s. [2]
Additionally, in October 2022, four Jehovah’s Witnesses were charged with sexually abusing 19 children in their congregations. The alleged crimes of the four defendants are separate, but all took place in Jehovah’s Witness communities in Pennsylvania. The charges include indecent assault, rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. Most of these defendants used their faith and church to gain access to their victims to build their trust and then sexually abused them. [3]
