Jardiance and Fournier’s Gangrene: What You Need to Know

Jardiance

Created and manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lily, Jardiance is a medication used for people who have been diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes that helps to lower the blood sugar level of the patients. The basis for injury in this lawsuit is the causal linkage between Jardiance and Fournier’s gangrene.

Fournier’s Gangrene Symptoms

According to urologists.com, symptoms of Fournier’s gangrene occurs in the perineal and genital area of both males and females. Although the likelihood of contraction is more so in males, females can also contract Fournier’s gangrene. Fournier’s gangrene is contracted through a small cut or wound, and it is a bacterial infection that settles in the genital area. “The most common symptoms of Fournier’s gangrene is the graying or blackening of the skin and a foul odor coming from the infection site.”[1]

Injuries

Both male and female patients who contract Fournier’s gangrene may require complete surgical removal of their reproductive parts. Patients who experience the beginning symptoms of Fournier’s gangrene will feel intense pain in the genital region, increased sensitivity, fever, fatigue, redness of the skin, graying or blackening of the skin, and many other painful injuries.[2]

For many patients, it also carries over into affecting their private lives with their spouse or significant other. The damages for these types of injuries are known as consortium claims because the loss of quality of life is so significant between the spouse and their significant other.

Damages Compensation

Jardiance has been scientifically linked to causing life-altering injuries. Those life-altering injuries require compensation for the plaintiff to be able to live life in as normal a manner as possible. Those injuries include medical expenses, the cost of lost earnings and wages, necessary renovations to their home, physical and emotional therapy, as well as other foreseeable damages that occur from life-threatening injuries.
