Dog bites are a serious problem in Florida, causing physical and emotional trauma to both people and pets. According to the Florida Department of Health, an estimated 4.5 million people are bitten by a dog in the United States every year, with more than 800,000 of these victims requiring medical treatment. In Florida, an estimated 14,000 dog bites are reported annually, but the number could be higher since not all incidents are reported to the authorities.
In order to reduce the risk of a dog bite in Florida, it is important for pet owners to take proper precautions. Basic steps include spaying/neutering pets and providing them with proper socialization and training. Pet owners should also be aware of their pet’s behavior and know how to respond to warning signs, such as barking and growling.
