Camp Lejeune Litigation Update

2 min read

Introductory

Last Tuesday, August 10, President Biden signed into law the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 for survivors of the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune. Any residents who served, lived or worked at Camp Lejeune between August 1, 1953, and December 31, 1987, are now eligible for compensation if they formed the signature injury caused by the contaminated waters[1].

Latest Update

Now that the bill has been signed into law, anyone who was exposed to the contaminated waters at Camp Lejeune will have two years to bring lawsuits against the government. The act that passed will essentially open up a lookback window for survivors that were exposed to the chemicals in the water at Camp Lejeune.

Injury Criteria

Long-term effects of the water contamination at Camp Lejeune include: adult leukemia, ALS, aplastic anemia, birth defects, bladder cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, esophageal cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, kidney cancer, leukemia, liver cancer, liver disease, lung cancer, miscarriages, multiple myeloma, neurobehavioral effects, ovarian cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Parkinson’s, prostate cancer, renal toxicity, and stomach cancer. These are the current symptoms and injury criteria associated with the water contamination lawsuit at Camp Lejeune[2].

Recently, there’s been some concern about a potential link between Ozempic, a common type 2 diabetes medication, and Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION), also referred to as an eye stroke. NAION is a relatively rare condition in which a loss of blood flow and oxygen delivery to the optic nerve cause sudden and painless vision loss in one eye. This occurs when blood flow to the retina is blocked, which can suddenly aGect your vision.
