Another company has recalled another 19 lots of losartan tablets. Vivimed Life Sciences produced the medication and Heritage Pharmaceuticals distributed them. Investigators during routine testing discovered high levels of the carcinogen, NMBA. , have been recalled for exceeding the FDA allowable amount of NMBA.
About NMBA
NMBA (N-Nitroso N-Methyl 4-aminobutyric acid) is a chemical compound that studies have linked to cancer. PubChem showed NMBA exposure caused bladder cancer in rats. The levels FDA investigators discovered are less than the doses in the experiment. However, any dose could potentially cause cancer in humans. This is the second cancer threat. Recalls of losartan, valsartan, and irbesartan started in July 2018. Previously, the only carcinogen identified as NDEA.
New Losartan Lots Recalled
Vivimed Life Sciences removed 19 lots of losartan tablets. This also includes varying strengths of 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg in 90-count or 1,000-count bottles. It is recommended to save any recalled medication for testing. The NMBA recall began in March with Camber Pharmaceuticals and Torrent Pharmaceuticals. Hetero Labs Limited made its medication. Many stores like Walmart, Target, and Kroger distributed these medications.
