Macleods Pharmaceuticals recalled one lot of blood pressure and heart medication Losartan over the presence of NDEA. Therefore, they now join many other companies that have recalled some of its Losartan, Valsartan or Irbesartan over probable carcinogens. The recalled 100 mg/25 mg losartan and potassium/hydrochlorothiazide tablets contained small amounts of N-nitrosodimethylamine or NDEA.

About NDEA

In September 2018, the FDA announced that three additional lots of valsartan drugs made by Torrent Pharmaceuticals contain a second carcinogen, NDEA. Exposure to NEDA can cause liver damage including necrosis of the liver. It hasn’t been tested in humans, but rats ingesting NDEA had increased fetal mortality rates. Several pills that contain valsartan, another drug used by heart patients, have been under recall since July. The drugs were tainted with NDEA or NDMA. Both are carcinogens. The FDA is testing all heart drugs (ARBs) for these impurities.

New Losartan Recall

Macleods is pulling from the market one lot of 100mg/25mg Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide combination tablets in 90-count bottles that have more NDEA than the FDA’s acceptable daily intake levels. It’s lot No. BLM715A with an expiration date of July 2019. The drug was manufactured in India. Hetero Labs Limited in India, one of two overseas drug factories linked to repeated blood medication recalls since last July.

The ongoing recalls prompted the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce to ask Food and Drug Administration officials this month about the safety of drugs made overseas.  There have been more than 15 recalls of versions of the blood pressure and heart medications losartan, valsartan, and irbesartan that contained trace amounts of NDEA or another probable carcinogen, N-nitrosodimethylamine, or NDMA. The recalled drugs are part of a class of angiotensin II receptor blockers or ARBs. These work by relaxing the blood vessels.

If you have the recalled medication, please keep your medication for testing.

Seek Justice

New Losartan RecallMany people after taking losartan, valsartan or irbesartan medications are horrified to learn that their medication could have caused their liver cancer. Therefore, it is important to seek justice. These potentially cancer-causing drugs have been on the market for over 5 years. This is unacceptable. You should hold these manufacturers accountable.
We want to help send a message that this is not acceptable. If a dangerous product harmed you, we will be your advocate. Additionally, we have the experience necessary to successfully litigate these cases.
Contact the Michael Brady Lynch Firm today for a free consultation to learn more about seeking justice. A jury may award compensation for any medical expenses associated with this ordeal, as well as for your physical and emotional suffering. There is no obligation.
