Clubs Abuse

There are many clubs and after school activities children can participate in. Many of these organizations pair an adult volunteer with a child or children. The children end up looking up to the adult in charge as a mentor or confidante. Yet, the predator in charge takes this position of power as a way to abuse a child.

Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States. There are almost 3 million children and over 1 million adults within BSA. There are many boys who love scouting and had no issues, but for the past 100 years there are many children who have been sexually abused.

Since 1920, BSA had to establish a “red flag” system to tag sexual predators. Now, it is called perversion files. Even though this is a well-documented issue in the organization, BSA does nothing to prevent sexual abuse from happening. In fact, using a secret internal policy called “probation”, pedophiles can continue working with scouts.

Boys and Girls Club of America

The Boys and Girls Club of America serves, through its local clubs, about four million children a year. While the Boys and Girls Club of America’s affiliate clubs provide important recreational and after-school services to children in need, like other institutions of trust, children have been sexually abused by Boys and Girls Club employees who exploit the trust placed in them by the children.

Just this year many victims have come forward and took legal action against the organization. In fact, a jury awarded more than $1.5 million to a Washington man who claimed he was sexually abused as a child at the Tacoma Boys and Girls Club. The 47-year-old man sued the organization claiming it was negligent in allowing a serial pedophile in a position of trust with children.
