Lyft Sexual Assault

Lyft is negligent since their on boarding process for new drivers is not extensive at all. Neither company fingerprints their drivers or uses background checks. Also, there aren’t any in person interviews to screen drivers. Therefore, many passengers are sexually assaulted.

About Lyft

Based in San Francisco, California, Lyft is operating in 640 cities in the United States and 9 cities in Canada. Lyft uses a mobile app connecting a rider with a driver. The rider gets into the vehicle and trusts the driver will take him or her to their designated location. No cash exchanges as everything is done with a credit card tied to the app. Lyft also offers scooters and bicycle sharing systems.

Uber is available around the globe, whereas Lyft is only in the US. However, ridership has risen 10% amidst Uber’s controversies. For example, when people thought Uber were strike-breakers at Laguardia Airport in January 2019 during a protest of the travel band, Lyft donated $1M to the ACLU.The company now occupies one third of the U.S. ride-hailing market. However, the company still won’t update their policies to protect riders.

Not Uncommon

A CNN investigation found that there are 104 rideshare drivers currently accused of sexually assaulting passengers in the last four years. The police arrested the drivers or civil suits have occurred. Juries have convicted 31 drivers for crimes ranging from forcible touching and false imprisonment to rape.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any public data for the exact number of Lyft sexual assaults. However, this is a wide-spread problem affecting people across the United States.

CNN found 104 accusations along with dozens more unsolved cases. It is important that if you are the victim of a sexual assault by a rideshare driver to get help.

After sexual assault, it’s hard to know how to react. There is physical and emotional pain. Plus, you may be confused on what steps to take.
