NOW Health Group has recalled over 10,000 units of  Zesty Sprouting Mix after its primary ingredient, crimson clover seeds were contaminated with salmonella. The mix was distributed online and in retail stores nationwide since December 2017.

The bacteria usually live in animal and human intestines and shed through feces. Consuming contaminated water or food spreads the infection to humans. Typically, people with salmonella infection have no symptoms. Others that develop symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea have them within 8 to 72 hours. However, most doctors misdiagnosis the infection as stomach flu.
Symptoms last two to seven days. Diarrhea may last up to 10 days, however, it may take several months before bowels return to normal. However, salmonella can develop into typhoid fever. This is a deadly disease. About 300 people get typhoid fever in the United States each year. About 22 million cases of typhoid fever and 200,000 related deaths occur worldwide each year.

Zesty Sprouting Mix Recall

NOW Health Group from Bloomingdale, Illinois has recalled Zesty Sprouting Mix (Product Code 7271) from Lot #3031259 and Lot #3038165. The packages have a best by date of January 21, 2019. The FDA has linked the crimson clover seeds in the mix to salmonella. No illnesses have been reported, yet. However, the FDA advises to throw away the product and do not consume it.  Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product. It’s also a good idea to clean out your refrigerator, or wherever you stored this product, to kill any bacteria.
The company distributed approximately 10,000 units of Zesty Sprouting Mix online and in retail stores nationwide since December 2017. The company also recalled its product on June 15 in Canada.
