About Listeria

Sandwich Listeria RecallListeria infection is a foodborne bacterial illness that can be very serious for pregnant women and people with impaired immune systems. Improperly processed deli meats and unpasteurized milk products breed the bacteria. Plus, it can survive refrigeration and even freezing. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms. This includes high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Listeria causes listeriosis, which infects 1,600 people and kills about 260 in the United States each year.
