During a routine inspection at its California facility, Henry Avocado Corporation uncovered a dangerous pathogen. Therefore, the company has issued an avocado listeria recall. This recall will affect six U.S. states.

About Listeria

Avocado Listeria RecallListeria infection is a foodborne bacterial illness that can be very serious for pregnant women and people with impaired immune systems. Improperly processed deli meats and unpasteurized milk products breed the bacteria. Plus, it can survive refrigeration and even freezing. However, it is rare for healthy people to get a listeria infection, but the disease can be fatal to unborn babies and newborns.

Avocado Listeria Recall

Henry Avocado warns that the avocado listeria recall involves California-grown conventional and organic avocados. The company distributed the affected avocados in Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Wisconsin starting in late January 2019. However, the Mexican avocados distributed by the same company are not subject to the recall.
The company claims to been contacting all clients in the affected areas to remove the avocados from the shelves. Consumers can identify the produce involved in the avocado listeria recall by not purchasing any avocados with a “Bravocado” sticker. However, Henry Avocado organic products do not have a “Bravocado” sticker. Those products have an “organic” and “California” markings on the sticker. Retailers can identify Henry Avocado organic products by the bar code on the stickers.
