A cockpit camera captured a pilot’s error that ended up killing his student. A small airplane landed in the fields outside of Pembroke Pines, Florida. Witnesses saw the plane skidding off the runway and toppling into the grass.
About A Private Plane Accident
Many think flying is safer than driving. For commercial planes, this can be the case. However, this isn’t the case for general aviation or private planes. Last year, almost 500 people died in private plane accidents. This could be due to pilot error, fuel shortage or bad landings. Bad landings are the most common cause of non-fatal private plane accidents. Fatality risk rises with worse weather. If a pilot is using his instruments since he can’t see, the risk actually is greater.
Cockpit Camera Exposes Pilot Error
The pilot landed the plane, then it veered left during the landing. The plane cut through the grass and its propeller dug into the ground. This caused the aircraft to stop abruptly and topple. The pilot went to Memorial Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries. However, the student died.
