The U.S. Helicopter Safety Team (USHST) released a statement warning that the U.S. helicopter industry has more fatal helicopter crashes recently than in decades. 2019 is only halfway through, but it is already the deadliest year of accidents.
About Helicopter Crashes
Helicopter crashes are the leading area for fatal accidents. These pilots do not have the experience as other pilots. By their very nature, helicopters are difficult to fly. A lot of areas these crafts fly-in are difficult and hazardous to maneuver in. When airplanes fly lower to the ground, there are lots of hazards involved. These include towers, utility wires, mountains, along with tall buildings. Due to these incidences, crashes can be severe and substantial.
Rising Number of Fatal Helicopter Crashes
The rise could be due to operators, pilots, instructors, and mechanics not paying attention to safety basics and managing risk. This includes fuel management along with better pre-flight inspections. Too many avoid checklists and using medications while flying decreases response time.
