The right to vote is one of the most important rights Americans have. That is exactly why elections should be secure, transparent, and trusted by the public. The SAVE Act helps accomplish that goal by requiring proof of United States citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

We need an ID to board an airplane, open a bank account, cash a check, buy certain products, enter many government buildings, and complete countless other everyday tasks. Most developed nations have stronger election security measures than the United States. Many require voter identification, maintain stricter voter registration systems, and place tighter limits on mail voting. These policies have not ended democracy. They have strengthened confidence in it.
Election laws should protect every legal vote. That means maintaining accurate voter rolls, verifying eligibility, and ensuring that only United States citizens participate in federal elections. Even isolated registration errors weaken public confidence and demonstrate why stronger safeguards are necessary.
The SAVE Act is not about making it harder for eligible Americans to vote. It is about making it harder for ineligible individuals to cast a ballot. Every eligible citizen should have an easy opportunity to vote, and every illegal vote should be prevented.
