Yaz and Yasmin Safety Dangers
This is Michael Brady Lynch, lead trial attorney for The Michael Brady Lynch Firm.
Yesterday the Food and Drug Administration finally took action concerning the dangers of the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin. However, it is too little too late for the thousands of women who have suffered clotting events such as stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism and DVT while on Yaz or Yasmin.
I have extensive experience litigating birth control cases, having represented well over a hundred women who were harmed by the birth control patch Ortho Evra. The dangers posed by the use of Yaz and Yasmin, however, is even greater.
A little bit of history on Yaz – through aggressive marketing touting the drug as safe and effective and a virtual miracle cure for hormonal acne, Yaz became the best-selling birth control pill in 2008.
Yesterday, by a vote of 21-5, an FDA panel of experts required Bayer, the manufacturer of Yaz, to include updated and strengthened warnings over the dangers of clotting events such as stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, and DVT while on Yaz or Yasmin.
As an FDA panel expert declared, Yaz offers “no real benefit over existing alternatives.” What a sad understatement.
