Roundup Update 2022

Introduction

Roundup is a litigation that has been ongoing for quite some time. It is a very public lawsuit with thousands of claimants. There are both multidistrict litigation lawsuits, as well as class-action lawsuits. Most of the general public has probably seen some of the advertisements regarding Roundup. It is a glyphosate[1] that is linked to multiple types of cancer, namely non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, B-cell lymphoma, and leukemia.[2] It was introduced onto the market as a weed killer because the glyphosate inhibits the ability of a weed or plant to reproduce. Some of the earlier lawsuits were against the major manufacturer Monsanto.[3] The reason that Roundup has been such a popular lawsuit is because it has been linked directly to the cancers mentioned above. These cancers have injured and even caused the deaths of thousands of claimants who have actually used the product without suspecting knowledge that they could contract cancer from it.

Update

At the current time, the Roundup lawsuit for multidistrict litigation is under MDL2741. This is the multidistrict litigation that is in the Northern District of California. At the current time, there are, “more than 3800 lawsuits pending,” according to the consumer safety reports. Monsanto and Bayer have both announced mediation and settlement, with Bayer paying an estimated $10.9 billion in settlement to claimants that were injured by Roundup. According to the consumer safety reports[4], it has been stated that an average of about $160,000 has been the average settlement for most of the cases.[5] Hello this is an estimated average, it is not representative of every individual claimant because each individual claimant has different injuries. Therefore, it should not be used as a measuring guideline, but rather as information pertaining to the settlement itself.

Injury Criteria

The current injury criteria is similar to what has been stated forth in the past, which is Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma has been steadily linked to Roundup as a causative agent of the type of cancer for an extended period of time at this point.
